Term 3, 2026 - Newsletter
Welcome to Term 4!
Celebrating a busy term and looking ahead to Term 4
What a fantastic Term 3 it has been at Southport Gymnastics Club! From competition success and new milestones to continued growth across our recreational programs, there has been plenty happening both inside and outside the gym.
Over the holidays selected gymnasts from our WAG Level 5,6 and 8 as well as our MAG gymnasts competed at the National Clubs Carnival, featuring gymnasts from all over Australia. All gymnasts achieved excellent results and should be proud of their achievements, letting our Southport Spirit shine.
As we head into Term 4, we wanted to share a few club updates, important dates and reminders with our SGC community. Thank you to our athletes, families, coaches and volunteers for the energy and support you continue to bring to the club.
BUILDING RENOVATION UPDATE
Our building renovations are continuing to progress, and we’re excited to see the improvements taking shape around the club. Thank you to all of our members and families for your patience and cooperation while these works are underway. The next phase includes our balconies and entrances, there may be some temporary changes to access during this period, updates will be posted on Social Media. Please continue to follow all signage and directions around the construction areas, including using designated access points and taking extra care when arriving and leaving the building. Some areas may look a little different while the works are completed, but our classes and programs continue as usual wherever possible.
We’ll keep members updated as the project progresses and can’t wait to show you the finished result! These works are a requirement of ongoing lease with Gold Coast City Council, and this project has been co-funded by fundraising activities by the Club and partially through a Council grant. A huge thanks to our committee and our community for their ongoing fundraising efforts.
SAFETY REMINDER: CARPARK & ARRIVAL
We ask everyone to take extra care in the carpark and surrounding areas.
Please:
· Drive slowly and remain alert when entering and leaving the carpark.
· Keep children close and supervise them at all times around vehicles.
· Do not allow children to run between or behind parked cars.
· Please remember that coaches and staff cannot supervise children in the carpark before or after their class, gymnasts must be collected from inside the building and are not permitted to wait outside for pickup.
COMMITTEE UPDATE
Our Management Committee continues to work behind the scenes to support the ongoing operation, development and future of Southport Gymnastics Club.
Over the past term, the Committee has continued work across governance, facilities, finances, staffing and club operations, while also supporting the renovation project and planning for the year ahead. This has included the development and acceptance of a new constitution, transition to a new back end finance system
We are always grateful to the members and families who contribute ideas, feedback and volunteer support. Southport is a community-run club, and the involvement of our members makes a real difference. If you are interested in joining our committee, please contact committee@southportgymnastics.com
HEAD COACH UPDATE
Term 3 has been another busy and productive term for our WAG program, with plenty of competition, development and preparation taking place across all levels.
Our junior athletes have had a fantastic competition period, representing Southport at both Junior Regional Championships and Junior State Championships. Congratulations to all of our gymnasts on their performances, and a big thank you to our coaches for the work that has gone into preparing and supporting the athletes throughout the season.
Throughout the term, we have also completed our regular strength and flexibility testing across the program. This has provided our coaches with valuable benchmarks for each athlete and will help guide our strength programming and physical preparation moving forward.
With the junior competition season now coming to an end, our focus is beginning to shift towards skill development and preparation for Term 4. New squad groupings and level placements have been finalised, and we’re looking forward to seeing many of our gymnasts begin working towards their next stage of development.
We still have one major competition ahead, with our Level 5, Level 6 and senior athletes preparing to compete at National Clubs during the school holidays. We wish all of our teams the very best as they head into their final weeks of preparation.
Term 4 will be an exciting opportunity for our new groups to settle in, begin working towards new skills and routines, and build strong foundations heading into the 2027 season.
